Cath Jones - Chair of Governors

I’ve been a governor for just over a year, originally being asked to join to fill the finance knowledge gap within the existing team. Since then, unsurprisingly, I’ve chaired the Finance and Resources Committee and been involved in recruitment.

I took early retirement 4 years ago after a career in Accountancy which took me to various industries including textiles, insurance, retail, vehicle leasing, the law and parkrun. During this time I managed large teams of finance staff and have therefore had much experience of general management, HR, projects, systems and process improvement.

I’ve always been interested in education - both parents were teachers, although they actively discouraged me from following them into the profession! So, during my working life, I’ve been an advocate of personal development and ran many training courses.

Outside work, I have become interested in running over the last 20 years and have qualified as a coach in running and triathlon. Since retirement, I’ve taken an even more active role in Bramhall Runners and coaches three times a week, my speciality being beginners, taking them from couch to 5k and beyond.

I live in Disley with my two dogs who also run. My son has now been through school and university and lives in Sheffield where he is a civil engineer. He returns home often to see the dogs and bring his washing!
