The origins of Hague Bar Primary School stretch all the way back to 1854, with a school which was in existence at the Strines Print Works. That school closed on the 2nd of May 1879, and relocated to Hague Bar. The doors to the new school officially opened on the 5th of May 1879.
Hague Bar Primary School is just inside the Derbyshire border. It lies between the town of New Mills in Derbyshire and Strines in Cheshire. The school is situated on the edge of the countryside and enjoys stunning views of fields and distant hills.

The Governors have a responsibility for all aspects of school life. At Hague Bar Primary School, the Governing Body meet regularly to plan strategically and work on specific school issues. As a staff, we regularly collaborate with The Peak Edge Group of Schools to ensure a thorough and current examination of our delivery of teaching and learning. More recently, we have voluntarily academised with The True Learning Partnership. Leaders and Governors of Hague Bar Primary School seek the very best future for our children.
Hague Bar Primary School has a well-deserved reputation for sport participation and achievement. We deliver sport to all our children with our partners UKSports who are specialist sports teachers. Dance and Drama are delivered to our younger junior children via more specialists called Take Part in the Art. Children of all ages are involved in local sports competitions at varying levels. Every child is encouraged to participate and the children take pride in producing match or competition reports, which are read out in assembly. Additionally, we take our older KS2 children swimming weekly, and to Whitehall Outdoor Education Facilty every six weeks, to experience a wide variety of activities: abseiling, canoeing, caving, kayaking, orienteering, mountain biking and stream scrambling. Our older children also venture on a 3 day residential to Lea Green, Derbyshire.
The Family Support Team, who work across other local primary and senior schools, is committed to providing support to ensure all children in the local area get the best start in life. We understand that family life can be difficult at times and our aim is to offer support to families within the community with children from primary through to secondary school in order to provide continuity with their outcomes.
Hague Bar Primary School want to ensure that parents and carers have access to support and advice that will help them in their parenting role so that their children can grow up to achieve positive outcomes. We and the Family Support Team aim to work with families in and open, honest, yet constructive way.
We can offer a range of services for parents/carers and children/young people in order to maximise outcomes for families.
How these services will be provided:
This is provided through an Early Help Assessment which can be completed within school or within the family home or if preferred at an alternative setting.
Workshops will be provided to support specific needs in response to what is required in the area. This will include emotional resilience and parenting support.
Targeted work through schools within focused group work.
